Cancelling an Event
Sometimes it has to happen. Here's exactly what cancelling does — and the one thing it doesn't do yet.
Who Can Cancel
Only the organization owner, an org admin, or an event team owner. Event managers, co-organizers, promoters, and door staff can't cancel events.
What Happens Automatically
The moment you confirm cancellation:
- •The event is marked cancelled and closed for sales
- •Every paid order is refunded automatically — attendees get the full ticket price back to their original payment method (Rally's buyer-side service fee is non-refundable)
- •Refunds are issued immediately, right in the cancellation process
- •Unpaid promoter/referral commissions tied to the event are voided
⚠️ What Does NOT Happen Automatically
Attendees are not currently notified when you cancel. You must tell them yourself:
- •Post the announcement on the event page and your host profile
- •Reply to open support tickets from attendees
- •Announce it on the socials your crowd follows
Don't skip this — silent cancellation is how hosts burn trust and drown in "where's my refund" messages.
Consider Rescheduling Instead
If the event can happen later, reschedule rather than cancel:
- •All tickets stay valid for the new date automatically
- •Attendees who can't make it can self-refund their ticket
- •You keep the audience you already sold
After Cancelling
Your event balance adjusts as the refunds are processed. If you'd already cashed out proceeds from this event, your balance can go negative and future sales settle it.
